What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridge is a dental solution to replace a missing tooth with its neighbouring teeth. The bridge will be cemented onto the real teeth on either side of the gap. Depending on the gap and how many missing teeth they are, the bridge can be a 3 unit bridge (with one missing tooth) or 4 unit bridge (with 2 missing teeth).

As part of major dental work, dental bridges do require 2 visits 1 to 2 weeks apart. During this time a temporary bridge will be issued for aesthetic purposes, where the temporary bridge is unable to perform practically.

For a dental bridge to be successful the teeth on either side of the gap must be healthy to support the bridge. Otherwise other options such as partial denture or dental implant can be an alternative.

For a better understanding and to see which options are available for your circumstances, call North Sydney Dentistry on 8090 1108 to make a consultation appointment.

Caring For Your Dental Bridge

Dental Bridge costDue to the nature of the dental bridge which is all connected as one unit, flossing your dental bridge can be quite difficult. The use of a superfloss is super handy for this situation, where the ends of the floss are rigid and the centre is thick and soft.

By threading the floss underneath the bridge and between the gums, the superfloss spongy centre is able to remove any debris that your toothbrush is unable to brush away. You should at least floss once a day and remember to continue brushing twice a day.

At North Sydney Dentistry we recommend patients to visit us for the routine check up and cleans every 6 months. Our dentists and oral health therapists will be able to remove plaques and stubborn stains, as well as to monitor your bridge and other teeth. During your visits, our clinicians are happy to give you tips and guidelines to help you take care and maintain your dental bridge.

If you have private health insurance, you can take advantage of our no gaps scale and clean with our oral health therapist. As long as you have enough dental cover in your private health insurance you can have up to 2 no gaps scale and clean per year.

For further information, please contact our friendly front desk staff who will be able to assist you and make an oral health therapist appointment.
